How is hawkeye a superhero

We've heard it pretty much every time Marvel's Avengers have been on the big screen. People point to Hawkeye and Black Widow and insist, "They shouldn't be here.

But those people are missing the point: Those heroes' normality is their greatest strength. Welcome to 'In Defense Of', a semi-regular io9 feature where we make the case for characters, concepts, and media we love. Hawkeye and Black Widow in particular deserve to be Avengers because of their awesome skills. Hawkeye is a master bowman, Widow the finest spy in the world. In comparison to their allies they might just be human, but that's the point: they're essentially the audience surrogates in ideal form, the best a human being can be.

The boys were sent to various foster homes, which they would often run away from. Eventually, the two boys joined a traveling circus as roustabouts and even learned about sword-fighting and archery from two performers named the Swordsman and Trick Shot. Some time later, Clint discovered the Swordsman was embezzling money from the circus and before he could alert the authorities, the Swordsman beat Clint up, left him for dead and escaped.

Eventually, Clint became an incredibly skilled archer and sword fighter and used his skills to become a professional performer. Jealous of Iron Man's popularity, Clinton decided to create his own superhero identity as "Hawkeye" in order to fight crime and become famous. However, in his first attempt at fighting crime, the police mistook him for a criminal and he soon found himself on the run. By chance, he met the Black Widow, a spy that Iron Man had tangled with before, and decided to use Hawkeye as a partner.

Hawkeye has uncanny accuracy with a bow-and-arrow, able to make seemingly impossible shots with ease. He has a variety of different arrows which all have different powers such as explosive arrows and many more. In the episode of the cartoon Avengers Assemble, a mess happening when the ant man was present involved the Hawkeye becoming giant for a while. Alluding to the identity of Goliath.

When young Hawkeye refuses to go along with the wicked ways of his circus-mates, his relationship with them deteriorates, and Clint soon finds himself completely alone in the world. Simply titled Hawkeye , the series, created by Matt Fraction and David Aja , ran from to and is considered highly influential.

Though he often displays an anti-authoritarian streak over the years, he also steps up to lead the team on several occasions - and across several rosters.

The only Avenger left standing is Clint Barton, but he still bravely takes on the Collector by himself. Against all the odds, Hawkeye manages to take down the all-powerful being with the clever deployment of some trick arrows, rescuing his teammates and earning their eternal respect in the process.

In Avengers Annual 16, Hawkeye has his second confrontation with an Elder of the Universe, and once again he comes out on top. Like most major superheroes, Clint Barton has experienced a comic book end and the inevitable resurrection that comes with it. Hawkeye's last stand comes during the events of Avengers: Disassembled , when the alien Kree overrun Earth with an armada of spaceships. He rockets himself into the largest Kree ship and blasts it - averting the aggression and sacrificing himself in the process.

In the end, the events of Avengers: Disassembled are revealed to be the machinations of the reality-bending - but temporarily insane - Scarlet Witch, and her god-like powers eventually bring Barton back to life.

For a lengthy stint, he borrows the size-changing technology of Hank Pym and becomes Goliath - a hero with all the skill of Hawkeye and the ability to grow to gargantuan proportions. After a few different events damage his ears, Hawkeye is left mostly deaf. As always, Hawkeye defies the odds by refusing to let his disability hold him back, and Fraction and Aja's Hawkeye series, in particular, does some beautiful work illustrating Barton's unique perspective.
